1. Do I need a partner?
You do not need a partner in order to join any of our classes. If you do not come with a partner, you will be partnered there to either a fellow student or one of our assistants and volunteers. We also rotate people often to ensure you dance with as many people as possible, a great way of meeting new people and improve your leading or following skills.

2. Why can we claim this on our taxes? What makes this school so different and special?
The Government of Canada has recognized us as an institution accredited with giving out an educational tax credit for Bronze, Silver and Gold level courses. Please check with your accountant regarding the T2022A.

3. Will it take long?
You will be able to see how easy it is after your first lesson. The length of your training depends on how often you come in and how proficient you would like to become in each dance.

4. How much will it cost to learn how to dance?
In order to dance properly for social occasions we will recommend people enrol on one of our dance programs which consist of a combination of private lessons, groups and party socials. The exact amount is determined when you come into the school for your free lesson.

5. Why can' t we give you an exact quote?
If someone were to ask us how much would it cost to learn how to play tennis, the first response would be what do you mean? How good do you want to be and how good are you now? Do you want just want to hit the ball, or do you want to hit it over the net as well? Would you like to win the odd game? So you see dancing is the same. We can' t tell you how much time it will take, only how to best achieve your results.

6. Why can' t we just take private lessons?
You can but we don' t encourage it. The idea is to get you dancing at a social level. This is why we are called The Toronto Social Dance School. It would again be like learning how to play tennis by hitting the ball against the wall and never going out on the court.

7. Why can' t we just take group classes? Isn't it cheaper this way?
It takes longer to learn in a group setting rather than a private lesson. Private lessons give you the style and technique plus the individual attention to your specific body. Group classes get you moving to different rhythms and different directions.

8. Why are the practise parties so valuable?
This is where you put it all together. All the instructors are there and we will help you to get around the dance floor. It' s like learning how to drive in a parking lot before you go out on the real road with real traffic. You will know what patterns to use in a busy corner or when there is a lot of space.

9. I' ve heard there is a difference between Social style and International style. What should we learn?
Social style is the choice of discipline for people looking to get on the floor and dance without worry or stress. The ultimate goal is to enjoy one' s experience, and be able to flow in and out of a busy dance floor while looking graceful or sexy (or both). The interpretation of each dance is based on the individual' s ability and level. There is no right or wrong. It' s a liberal art form which allows the student to interpret the music from within and do what they can while still having fun. Once people have achieved this in their dancing confidence follows in everything they do. Dancing With the Stars is an example of social dance routines.

International Style describes the competitive side of dancing. This style has developed over the years giving competitors a select amount of movements with which to work with. Emphasis is based on technique and execution and not designed for a social setting. A strong International dancer normally starts at a much younger age as it takes years to develop the look of professionalism required to make every move look natural. Blackpool is a great example of International style competition and is wonderful to watch.

International Style describes the competitive side of dancing Standard and Latin-American styles, where couples dancing is judged by judges and purpose of it is to achieve the highest possible placing.

10. Why don' t you teach children?
We may offer group classes one day, but at this point our focus is on adults. This is our area of expertise. Most of our clients are 30 and up and we prefer to specialize in that age range except for of course wedding couples. Our style of teaching is geared for the more mature learner with emphasis placed on a relaxed way of learning

11. Is your system of teaching difficult?
Not at all! The Toronto Social Dance School is known for making learning fun and easy. We teach four simple basic movements, from which the new combinations are derived.

12. Will I learn the latest and most popular steps?
You can learn the very latest steps in any or all social and night club dances : Tango, Waltz, Salsa, Swing, Mambo, Hustle, Samba, Merengue, Fox Trot, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Country and more.

13. Can I take the lessons at any time convenient to me?
Take lessons any time you wish. Our studio is open from 1:00pm to 10:00pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Schedule each lesson whenever it is convenient for you.

14. Will I have a good Instructor?
You'll have the teacher best suited to your needs...All of our dance trainers must complete a most arduous training regimen. They are experienced on the dance floor and knowledgeable in techniques to help you learn to master today's popular dances. The teachers selected for you are ones we know will best suit your personality. In fact we always recommend a student have at least two different instructors to best learn.

15. What benefits do I receive?
Dancing is your first line of social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved personality and new friends. Beyond these, dancing is a superb physical conditioner, providing fun without working at it! Learning to dance will open up a wonderful new world of togetherness and a thriving year-round social calendar.

16. What sets the Toronto Social Dance School apart from all the other schools in the GTA?
In addition to having a pool of vigorously trained teachers, you will be learning in a warm, friendly environment. We have students travelling from all parts of the city to take lessons here. Once you start, you will know why. Feel the Difference!
