The work looks to reference the influence and impact of the past\, seeing that this history is rooted in us and how we can move forward today. Figure Eights continues a 6-year history of collaboration between tap artist Danny Nielsen and contemporary artist Shay Kuebler\, which continues to explore the connection and integration of percussive and non-percussive dance forms. The two artists bring forward their diverse interests in music\, comedy\, theatre and dance to find a classic form of entertainment with a unique contemporary voice. Shay and Danny will share work in progress and talk about their research. Erika Mitsuhashi asks these questions through an experimental livestream experience\, Making It Up: The Meeting. Playfully using a livestream video feed and DIY-sonography\, Erika reveals an imaginative microcosm: a world built in isolation\, where a sacred meeting ensues between a cosmic vibrant-being and their assigned flesh-being on Earth. This is complemented by Being(s) in plain site\, a collection of visual and text-based reflections – part-photo essay\, part-blog. \nDurational livestream: February 2-6\, 2021 WATCH HERE\nPerformance livestream: February 5\, 2021 | 2pm PST WATCH HERE  Presented as part of PushOFF 2021: Speculative Futures. \nREAD THE BLOG HERE URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/erika-mitsuhashi/ CATEGORIES:Event,Online Event ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/2_square-Photo-Erika-Mitsuhashi.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20210207T153000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20210207T173000 DTSTAMP:20260604T080911 CREATED:20200428T193104Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260111T063440Z UID:6432-1612711800-1612719000@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:P. Megan Andrews: Field | Practice | Context #3 DESCRIPTION:An experimental conversation series facilitated by P. Megan Andrews \n#3: re/engaging differently: considering our ethics of practice in creative process and performance (reconvened) \nWith guest conversationalists Jeanette Kotowich\, Kevin Fraser and Pam Tzeng. \nHow are you practicing? What are the forces and relations that activate your practice? What frames reveal or conceal your work? How are you engaging your ethics of practice with respect to current contexts? How do these shifting contexts both collapse and expand possibility for your work? \nAs part of her disorientation project\, Dance Centre Associate Artist and scholar P. Megan Andrews invites participants to a series of experimental conversations to explore these questions in relation to various themes together with invited guests. Listen and/or contribute as you choose. \nREGISTER NOW \nCapacity is limited: registration closes at 3pm on February 7. Responding to the impossible task of physicalizing these digitally altered images and movements in real time\, the artists aim to uncover unnatural and re-sequenced iterations of their action\, with uncomfortable speeds\, extreme qualitative shifts and bizarrely broken momentum\, re-imagining their dance through a “digital body”\, and replacing their original human movement with something other. \nAs a live sharing of this research is not possible at this time\, the artists will be presenting video samples from different stages of rehearsals during an open discussion about their process and findings. \nPlease note that latecomers will not be admitted after the event has started. Three separate screens show three different performances of the piece\, each shot in a single take. The viewer has the option to cycle through the three videos\, to watch them simultaneously\, or to experiment with different combinations of playback. And does it edge closer? is a celebration of movement\, of being with what arises in the unfolding present\, and of the joy\, frustration\, bewilderment\, and\, ultimately\, satisfaction\, of deciding to continue on. \nWatch it here \nRegister here Optional – register to receive a reminder email on the day of the show URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/francesca-frewer/ CATEGORIES:Online Event,Performance ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Francesca-Frewer-1-sq.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20210224T180000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20210224T180000 DTSTAMP:20260604T080911 CREATED:20200623T200058Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260111T063639Z UID:6705-1614189600-1614189600@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:12 Minutes Max Studio Showing DESCRIPTION:12 Minutes Max aims to foster experimentation and the development of new dance works\, along with critical feedback and community dialogue. \nDance artists Maria Avila\, Liat Har Lev\, Caroline MacCaull & Indigo Porebska-Smith\, and Jhoely Triana will share and discuss their work in an informal studio showing. \nFacilitators: Barbara Bourget and Paras Terezakis. \nRegistration closes at 5pm on February 24.
