Using health-fitness and bodybuilding culture as a lens\, Feasting on Famine explores how corporations have altered\, created and monetized the industries of “success” and “health”. The human being becomes both the proponent and the dependent of big business. The body becomes a corporation where body-fat\, water\, calories and muscle mass are the measures for profit and loss margins. Where gains and profits are paramount\, success is attained at any and all costs. \n#DANCEFORTH is a new National Arts Centre (NAC) Dance livestream series designed to support Canadian dance artists both locally and nationally. Feasting on Famine is presented in partnership with The Dance Centre. \nWatch on Facebook until 7pm PST October 9. \nMore Info: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/27487 \nA small invitation-only audience will be present at the show\, following all venue safety protocols. In this stimulating presentation\, Sujit will perform short solo works\, and discuss how he and other artists are increasingly challenging the traditional hierarchies\, politics and stereotypes surrounding bharata natyam. \nPhotos Chris Randle\, J’Adore Andy Photography\, Chella Videos. Vignettes both poignant and irreverent\, consider the tensions of racialization\, displacement and cultural assimilation. Central to the piece are questions around Ziyian’s immigrant experience as a first-generation person of colour: what does it mean to know that one will never arrive yet always yearn to belong? Leaning into the poetic dissonance of vulnerability\, the work unsilences the odd volume of one womxn’s identity and maps a road to healing. \n#DANCEFORTH is a new National Arts Centre (NAC) Dance livestream series designed to support Canadian dance artists both locally and nationally. The Odd Volume is presented in partnership with The Dance Centre. The stream will be available for viewing for 24 hours. \nMore Info: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/27491 URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/danceforth-the-odd-volume-dumb-instrument-dance/ CATEGORIES:Performance ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/The-Odd-Volume-2-David-Cooper-Square.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
