His message – to keep moving and to remember… you are never too old to do what you love. Throw out any preconceived notions of balletic preciousness\, tutus and frou-frou\, and embrace the exquisitely controlled chaos that is Australia’s preeminent dance-circus company. \nUnder the visionary direction of choreographer Yaron Lifschitz\, Circa mixes it up\, throwing in burlesque\, heart-in-throat acrobatics\, romance\, and more than a little madness and mayhem to create a fully feathered concoction. \nIn Duck Pond\, elements of Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballet and Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved parable The Ugly Duckling leap headlong into the pool together. Performers leap\, tumble\, and proffer topsy-turvy takes on the roles of pining prince\, black swan\, and an army of yellow billed duck-dancers in sequinned flippers. The result is a circus marvel\, glittering with theatrical magic and laughter\, all cued up by the words “Once upon a time.” \n  \nPresented by DanceHouse and The Cultch URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/circa/ CATEGORIES:Performance END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20250123T193000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20250124T193000 DTSTAMP:20260604T065015 CREATED:20241219T203550Z LAST-MODIFIED:20241219T205540Z UID:19888-1737660600-1737747000@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:Mirko Guido DESCRIPTION:This choreographic work unfolds across a desolate terrain\, scattered with assemblages of industrial debris and organic matter\, where the stage becomes a space of hybridization\, a threshold between inner landscapes and external realities. Suspended in this liminal space\, the performers engage with their sculptural surroundings in fleeting moments of playfulness\, resignation\, ecstasy and abandonment\, forming a corporeal topography that collapses the boundary between dancer and environment. \nPresented by PuSh International Performing Arts Festival and SFU School for Contemporary Arts URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/mirko-guido/ CATEGORIES:Performance END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20250124T193000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20250124T193000 DTSTAMP:20260604T065015 CREATED:20240905T210649Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240905T210649Z UID:19081-1737747000-1737747000@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:Dancers of Damelahamid DESCRIPTION:Dancers of Damelahamid is an Indigenous dance company founded upon over five decades of extensive work of song and dance revitalization. Co-commissioned by Dance Victoria\, Raven Mother is its newly choreographed dance work in honour of late Elder Margaret Harris (1931–2020)\, who had a significant impact on the revitalization of Indigenous dance along the Northwest Coast. The work illuminates the integral role of women in holding cultural knowledge. In Raven Mother\, striking handcrafted traditional masks\, movement\, song\, regalia\, sculpture\, and design are all interwoven with the embodied narrative. This work is the company’s most ambitious production to date and will be the culmination of generations of artistic and cultural work.
