The box is all the barriers\, like distance\, chronic fatigue\, and pain\, and also how disabled artists innovate together. Even when we are in separate spaces\, our shared attunement and connection remain the center of the work.  \nWorking with access artists Kelsie Acton and Colin van Uchelen\, she weaves a web of embedded description that makes the performance accessible to blind and sighted audience members from its inception.  \nPhotos by Chris Randle\nSupported through the Artist-in-Residence program.  URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/harmanie-rose/ LOCATION:The Dance Centre\, 677 Davie Street\, Vancouver\, British Columbia\, V6B 2G6\, Canada CATEGORIES:Event,Studio Showing ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/DSC_6301-sq.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20260704T190000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20260704T210000 DTSTAMP:20260604T052201 CREATED:20260526T230011Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260526T230011Z UID:25280-1783191600-1783198800@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:Mozaico Flamenco DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for an unforgettable evening at the Mozaico Concert supporting Maestro Oscar Nieto! This intensive two-week butoh workshop led by Kokoro Dance’s Artistic Directors\, Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi\, and is open to anyone over the age of 18. \nThe performances on July 15th and 16th take place\, in the nude\, on Wreck Beach at the foot of the #4 Trail below the UBC Museum of Anthropology. A maximum of 30 participants will be accepted into the workshop. The workshop takes place weekdays from 9:00am-4:00pm daily at the KW Production Studio. Participants should bring comfortable exercise clothing\, a water bottle\, and towel. No previous dance experience or exposure to butoh is required\, but the intensive is physically challenging. If you want to participate\, it is advisable to come to Kokoro’s ongoing dance classes or find physical conditioning elsewhere. \nStarting from day one of the workshop\, we will build a butoh score built on interior imagery that will create both an individual and a group journey\, 60 to 70 minutes in length. It will be performed on sand and in water whether it is sunny or rainy on Vancouver’s largest stage with lighting\, set\, sound\, and costumes by Mother Nature. Kokoro Dance’s Wreck Beach Butoh experience is a life-altering opportunity to discover your own original dance expression. \nMore info.
