Join them\, and special guests Margaret Grenier\, Elizabeth Milton\, Ocean Hyland\, Steven Hill\, and Bracken Hanuse Corlett\, as they explore how the human body can write choreography into a mask and then\, how the mask can write choreography onto another human body. Learn about the use of masks in contemporary art and ancient connections to supernatural beings. \nJarislowsky Studio\nFree admission\, refreshments provided\nRSVP to associate@thedancecentre.ca by March 5\, 2020 URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/the-practice-of-masking/ LOCATION:The Dance Centre\, 677 Davie Street\, Vancouver\, British Columbia\, V6B 2G6\, Canada CATEGORIES:Event ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Dancers-of-Damelahamid-photo-Derek-Dix-sq.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20200312T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20200312T210000 DTSTAMP:20260604T081724 CREATED:20190816T230014Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260111T061742Z UID:2308-1584043200-1584046800@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:Bill Coleman DESCRIPTION:In Dollhouse\, Canadian contemporary dance master and choreographer Bill Coleman portrays a figure whose whole world is literally falling in around him. Inhabiting a cluttered room which collapses and breaks at his every touch\, he shares the stage with sound artist Gordon Monahan\, whose unique score accompanies the descent into theatrical disintegration. Coleman resembles a modern fakir\, as he suffers through painful yet comical situations on his way to sonic and visual chaos. Wildly original and virtually unclassifiable\, Dollhouse encompasses tap dancing\, performance art and sound installation\, using mechanical and electronic objects\, both handmade and found\, to deliver surprising and dazzling images and rhythms. \nPost-show talkback March 13 URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/bill-coleman/2020-03-12/ LOCATION:The Dance Centre\, 677 Davie Street\, Vancouver\, British Columbia\, V6B 2G6\, Canada CATEGORIES:Performance END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20200320T170000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20200320T170000 DTSTAMP:20260604T081724 CREATED:20200220T183500Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260111T220234Z UID:5991-1584723600-1584723600@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:Postponed: Joshua Beamish/ MOVETHECOMPANY DESCRIPTION:A sharing of work in progress from a new solo that Kirsten Wicklund is creating for Joshua Beamish. The work explores the idea of isolation: how is being alone with oneself the same as feeling alone while with others? What is a person’s desire for home or belonging rooted in? Wicklund aims to research the idea of physical undoing where new layers are revealed or set on fire. \nStay tuned for a new date to be announced. \nBirmingham Studio URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/joshua-beamish-movethecompany-2/ LOCATION:The Dance Centre\, 677 Davie Street\, Vancouver\, British Columbia\, V6B 2G6\, Canada CATEGORIES:Event,Open Rehearsal ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Joshua-Beamish-sq.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Vancouver:20200327T180000 DTEND;TZID=America/Vancouver:20200327T180000 DTSTAMP:20260604T081724 CREATED:20200207T222551Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260111T063249Z UID:5872-1585332000-1585332000@thedancecentre.ca SUMMARY:Postponed: Lee Su-Feh: The Territory Between Us DESCRIPTION:2 years ago\, I approached Bracken Hanuse Corlett to carve me a mask in response to the conversations between us. \nThese conversations were between two artists getting to know each other and touched on our relationship to this territory\, to art\, to traditions\, and to our families and loved ones. We talked of the mask as a representation of the territory between us: me\, an immigrant and him\, Indigenous to the west coast of Turtle Island (Wuikinuxv/ Klahoose). We talked of the mask as “The Territory Between Us”. \nMy sole task on receiving the mask was simply to submit to it\, to be guided by it. \nBracken and I\, along with Justine A Chambers\, acting as choreographic assistant\, will share some of our thoughts and outcomes of this process so far. \n– Lee Su-Feh \nBirmingham Studio URL:https://thedancecentre.ca/event/the-territory-between-us/ LOCATION:The Dance Centre\, 677 Davie Street\, Vancouver\, British Columbia\, V6B 2G6\, Canada CATEGORIES:Event ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://thedancecentre.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Bracken-Hanuse-Corlett-photo-by-Dean-Hunt-sq.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
